OUR ORGANIZATION
The Lehigh Township Historical Society was formed to obtain, maintain and preserve the history and/or historical sites of Lehigh Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
At an organizational meeting held in January 2001, it was determined that there existed sufficient interest to form a local historical society.
On February 13, 2001, the Lehigh Township Historical Society was formally recognized by the Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors in resolution 2001-6.
On April 13, 2001 the Lehigh Township Historical Society was officially recognized by the state of Pennsylvania as a non-profit corporation.
On March 22, 2002 the Lehigh Township Historical Society became exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.
OUR GOALS
After obtaining a lease from the Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors for the ‘Trading Post’ building of the former Indian Trail Park located along State Rte. 248 in the village of Pennsville, our primary goal had been to restore the structure and transform it into a township museum, archive and historical society meeting room.
However, due to the extremely poor condition of the water-soaked / termite infested wood and damage caused by a November, 2003 windstorm, it was determined that the edifice had to be razed. Society members unanimously vowed to reconstruct the building by maintaining the original design and dimensions as historically accurate as possible. Modern building materials were utilized to reduce maintenance, and to keep the new edifice secure for future generations.
Once this goal is achieved, additional historical sites within Lehigh Township will be considered for preservation and restoration.

The Lehigh Township Historical Society meets the second Monday of every month at 7:00 pm in the newly reconstructed Lehigh Township Historical Centre (former Trading Post Building of Indian Trail Park):
